Colorado House Representative Kimmi Lewis – Kim (HD 64)
Representative Kimmi Lewis grew up on a cattle ranch located in Las Animas and Bent counties in southeastern Colorado. Representative Lewis attended a small rural school in Kim where she competed in sports and was very involved with 4-H and FFA while helping with the ranch work. After graduating from Kim High School, Representative attended Trinidad State Junior College on a basketball scholarship. She married Dave Lewis, her high school sweetheart, from Branson, Colorado. They owned and operated Dave Lewis Trucking, a cattle and feed hauling business while raising six children.
In 1992 Representative Lewis and Dave purchased the ranch from her father which they operated along with their trucking business. After losing Dave in a battle with leukemia, Representative Lewis has continued to own and operate Muddy Valley Ranch, raising USA beef.
Representative Lewis has been a lifelong Republican holding every office except treasurer in the Las Animas County Republican Party plus serving as President of the Trinidad/Las Animas County Republican Women’s Club.
Representative Lewis has devoted substantial time and money advocating for agriculture and private property rights. Her efforts have been recognized numerous times including:
• 2007: La Junta Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Award, recognizing her efforts to prevent the expansion of the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site.
• 2009: Southern Colorado Livestock Association Cattle Woman of the Year, for her “dedication and lifetime commitment to our industry, community and our country.”
• 2016: American Agri-Women LEAVEN Award (LEAVEN = Loyalty, Enthusiasm, Anticipatory, Valiant, Effectiveness and Nurturing).
Representative Lewis serves on the Colorado House Agriculture, Livestock & Natural Resources Committee and the Colorado House Public Health Care & Human Services Committee.
